A new patient was referred me for the first time earlier this year after years of frustration. She came in with guarded optimism but had endured years of frustrating doctor visits. She had brought in a prepared handwritten narrative of all her symptoms and evaluations she had had gone through over the years. Her story was all too familiar. She started her account with the following quote. "I've had my thyroid checked more than all the research on global warming." In this podcast episode I discuss thyroid disease and fibromyalgia. While the symptoms of thyroid disease overlap with fibromyalgia and initially often can be hard to separate out without testing, repeated frustration after normal thyroid bloodwork and other labs can lead to unnecessary delay in diagnosis of fibromyalgia.
